Each stylist holds two New York State licenses required to legally perform our work. Our industry requires extensive training, ongoing education, and a deep understanding of both artistry and science.
Surprisingly, many professions charging thousands of dollars for services aren’t even required to be licensed.
Part of our mission at Onyx & Ivy is to change how people think about the hairstyling industry. Stylists are not just creatives with scissors. We are trained professionals who blend technique, knowledge, and artistry every day.

Olivia has been a licensed stylist for six years and has worked full-time behind the chair as an independent stylist since the start of her career. Her introduction to the industry began at just 16 years old, when she worked as an assistant at a local woman-owned salon and gained early experience in both the creative and business sides of the industry.
She later earned a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from St. John Fisher College before ultimately returning to the beauty industry to pursue a more hands-on, creative career. After graduating from Continental Beauty School in Syracuse and spending three years booth renting while building her clientele, Olivia achieved her long-time goal of opening her own salon: Onyx & Ivy Hair Collective.
